Think Your Menopause Is Just About Your Hormones? Think Again!

Sep 24, 2016

Do you ever get absolutely sick to the back teeth of your menopausal symptoms? I don’t just mean slightly annoyed or fed up, but desperate just to step off the rollercoaster and make it all stop somehow?

These merciless symptoms are intent on wreaking havoc on your life in whatever way they can, and it’s getting all too much.

You’ve tried your best to hide those unsightly hot flushes whenever they erupt, pushed yourself to perform when you brain was full of cotton wool, bought slimming underwear to conceal that muffin top, pushed yourself to be intimate in the bedroom even when sex was the last thing on your mind, and tried your very hardest not to cry or scream in public.

It’s a lot of hard work just trying to look normal when there’s a hormonal storm raging inside.

And so you probably vowed to get a grip on it somehow or another.

You invested your precious time and hard-earned money into solutions that simply didn’t work. Like that homeopathic remedy that solved it all for a friend-of-a-friend, or that scary fad diet that only made you crave the foods you love the most, or even HRT. Or you might have just tried to get your head down, stop complaining and try to get through it as best you can, just like you mother and her mother too.

But everything you tried, nothing EVER seemed to do the trick, did it?

So what if I told you that there is another solution for the way you are currently feeling? And this one really does work. It’s the ground-breaking solution that is entirely ignored by most of the medical profession, and much of the health and wellness crowd too.

It’s harnessing the incredible power of your mind.

Because right there within you lies something that plays a much great role in your overall health and happiness than you’ve ever thought possible.

And yes, that does include your hormones and menopausal symptoms too.

Your thoughts influence how your body functions

When you think sunny happy thoughts, you get healthier. When your thoughts are negative or based in stress, you are more likely to get sick, sad and succumb to premature ageing and disease. It’s scientific fact.

You see, when you think about something, your brain releases several neurotransmitters. These are chemical messengers which help control the majority of your body’s functions, from your sex hormones, to your digestion, your immune system, your cardiovascular system and your mood.

This means that if you think happy or positive thoughts, you get a surge of that reward hormone dopamine which keeps you wanting to repeat that action, keeps you healthy and makes you feel great. Feeling like this is wonderful for your hormones, and even better for your stress levels.

But, on the other hand, when you think those stressed or negative thoughts your body perceives a threat, and so acts accordingly. In response you’ll get a surge in stress hormones such as cortisol, which interfere with your natural hormonal balance, worsening your menopause symptoms and stressing your entire system.

Your thoughts affect your self-esteem

Of course your thoughts don’t just affect how your body works physically, they also shape your psychological health on many levels too.

Firstly, when you think negative or stressful thoughts on a regular basis (for example you self-criticise, worry excessively, see the worst in people or situations, and so on) you actually increase the amount of these negative things in your life. You stop seeing the positive because you’re not looking for it anymore and so the negative takes over instead.

Secondly, your thoughts influence the way you feel about yourself. If you keep listening to your inner critic you’ll actually believe that you ‘always make those mistakes’ or ‘are fat, ugly and unlovable’ or worst still you’ll believe that the menopause is the ‘beginning of the end’.

But, if you become your biggest cheerleader and refuse to succumb to negativity, you will feel brighter, more confident and feel ready to face whatever life has to throw at you. Yes, even your symptoms of menopause.

And naturally, this entire body-mind connection is an endless cycle so the more you think self-defeating thoughts, the worse your menopausal symptoms become, and so you feel worse still. Of course, this also means you are less likely to make healthy lifestyle choices that support your hormonal health, and so find yourself polishing off the contents of your biscuit tin, smoking or drinking to excess, indulging in endless cups of tea or coffee and generally neglecting to take care of your body.

What’s the answer?

The answer is simple: Learn to harness the power of your mind so it starts working for you instead ofagainst you.

You discover how to overcome those patterns of negative thought, reduce your levels of stress back to a comfortable level, overcome all of those issues, burdens and struggles you’ve been carrying with you all of this time, and then you can cast off that cocoon to allow the beautiful (menopause symptom-free) butterfly to emerge.

But it can be so hard to do it all on your own.

You need experienced help and support that will be there exactly when you need it the most, as well as a powerful toolkit of techniques that will help you to get to exactly where you want to be, both mentally and physically. As a highly qualified and experienced hypnotherapist and coach, it would be my pleasure to help this happen for you.
