The 100% Effective Way To Find Freedom, Joy and Happiness (When Everything Else Has Failed)

Sep 23, 2016

When it’s late at night and you’re waiting for sleep to carry you away, what thoughts run through your mind?

Do you sign in contentment to think of the wonderful life you’re living? Are you exactly where you hoped you’d be?

Or do you feel as if you’ve missed the train of opportunity and life is slipping passing by? Do you remember that beautiful dream that used to keep your flame burning and your heart fighting, or has it simply got buried and forgotten over time?

These are not rhetorical questions- I’d like you to take a moment to reflect and understand exactly where you are.

Because these moments are revealing. These moments allow your true feelings to slip through to the surface when you are, away from the chaos and pressures of daily life. This is the real you. I’d like to you to tune into that voice today, listen to what is has to say, and then honour it so that even your wildest dreams can come true.

As a result you’ll finally be...

What Your Partner Would Never Tell You About Your Pregnancy

Sep 23, 2016

Have you ever walked into a room, and without exchanging a single word with anyone in there, you just know that something is going on?

That energy, that atmosphere seems to just hang in the air like an unspoken secret, waiting for someone to pluck it down and allow it to make itself heard.

When I work closely with couples, I often feel the same thing.

Everything seems to be perfectly hunky-dory on the outside, but deep down I just know that the partner is hiding something. I just know that something is wrong. And I just can’t settle until I’ve uncovered just what this thing is.

No, it’s not your ever-expanding stomach, nor the horrible morning sickness they’ve seen you go through. Nor is it your choice in paint colour for the nursery or those unflattering pregnancy pants.

It’s something far worse than this.

It’s fear.

Now, I’ve spoken a lot in my sessions about the role of fear in a healthy pregnancy, and if you’ve attended,...

It’s Not Your Fault That You Comfort Eat. Want to Know Why?

Sep 23, 2016

We’ve all been there.

Those times when you find yourself staring down the biscuit barrel hoping to cheer yourself up with a chocolate hobnob or custard cream that soon turns into the entire tin.

Or when you pile a few extra roast potatoes onto the plate after a long, hard day, or scoop an extra-generous serving of your favourite dessert onto your plate and then feel incredibly guilty afterwards. Or those nights you creep downstairs to raid the kitchen cupboards for practically anything you can lay your hands on.

After all, you deserve it don’t you? It’s just a teeny tiny treat and you’ll go back to eating clean again tomorrow, won’t you?

But we all know what happens tomorrow. You promise yourself that you’ll be ‘good’ and you try your hardest to exert some kind of self-control when cravings strike. But for all that effort, you still end up right there, searching for solace in a generous helping of unhealthy food.

And it’s not...

Why Mothers Matter Too: Taking Care Of Yourself As A Parent

Sep 23, 2016

Remember the moment when your child was placed gently into your arms? Remember exactly the transformation that happened inside? That special indescribable something that blossomed right there that changed you as a person forever. That something that was unconditional love.

That wrinkled-up creature that lay there squinting and most likely smeared with blood and vernix became a source of wonder, and fascination and above all vital importance for you. Nothing else mattered anymore. You would do anything, absolutely anything to save that squirming little worm.

In fact, you probably even forgot that you had needs to begin with, once the instinct and hormonal cocktail took over.

And as time went on, you continued to put your child first, taking on more than you could really handle, watching your stress-levels escalate and your health deteriorate as a result. Be honest with yourself, and admit that it’s time to stop.

You might think that by giving it everything you’ve got and...

There IS A Way To Beat Menopausal Belly Bloat...

Sep 23, 2016

Over the years, I’ve worked with many pre and post-menopausal women who are looking for help and support as they approach the menopause. Some are seeking answers after they’ve started to notice certain changes happening within their bodies. Some are battling awful night sweats, sleep problems, terrible mood swings or even witnessing a decline in their usually-healthy libido. Some are deeply afraid of growing old.

But can you guess the number one concern I hear from all of these wonderful women?

It’s weight-gain, and more specifically, that middle-aged, menopausal spare-tyre that can slowly accumulate on your waist and tummy area as you grow older, and is said to be one of the tale-tale signs that your body is transitioning towards the menopause.

Most of the women that express their concerns have always been the really fit and healthy types who have always enjoyed being a healthy weight, without needing to do too much about it. Then as their hormones begin to shift,...

It's a Myth: Labour Doesn't Have to be Painful

Sep 23, 2016

When I discovered that I was pregnant with my daughter Nicole, one of the very first feelings that passed through my mind (apart from excitement, of course) was dread. How on earth would I make it through the excruciating labour that I believed lay at the end? Could I do it? Would my body somehow disappoint me when I needed it most? And of course, how much would it hurt?

Like me, you’ve probably been on the receiving end of many dramatic birth stories where the women in question goes into the greatest of detail, including as many gory details of blood and pain as they possibly can. They seem not to realise they are doing it, but they exaggerate and dramatize for purposes of story-telling and to come to process their birth experience.

Whilst they share their stories with the very best of intentions, they don’t realise what fear they are instilling into all of the expectant (and pre-expectant) mothers that surround them.

Even the media are at it- birth is portrayed as some...

Beat Emotional Eating NOW! (Here's How)

Sep 23, 2016

You’ve just arrived home after a long and hectic day and what is the first thing you do to relax? You throw open the door of the fridge and scan its shelves eagerly for a little treat to nibble on before dinner. Or perhaps it’s mid-evening, you’re a little bored and your taste buds feel like they could do with a dose of pleasure. Or your relationship has just exploded and you need a bowl of chocolate ice cream to dry your tears.

Sound familiar?

Most of us have turned to food at one time or another in an attempt to soothe our poor battered emotions. Perhaps life wasn’t going the way you expected it to, or your self-image was at rock bottom, or that relationship was in trouble, or you were suffering money worries, health problems or even feeling lonely.

But in truth, eating really didn’t help either. In fact, you felt even worse afterwards because absolutely nothing was resolved and there was a whole heap of guilt added to the burden too.

Why You Can (And Should) Have an Empowered Childbirth

Sep 23, 2016

The birth of my daughter should have been so wonderful, but instead it was a complete disaster.

I wish I could have taken control. I wish I could have been that woman who took a deep breath, felt confident and informed of her choices, and then stood up to the doctors and the midwives to get what she believed to be right.

But instead, I didn’t.

I couldn’t. I was vulnerable. I was afraid. And as a young woman in the middle of scary and uncomfortable contractions, I could barely think straight.

So when they gave me a sleeping pill and told me it would still be a long time before I would meet my little girl, I didn’t dare argue. After all, they were the ones that went to medical school so they knew what was best, right? I shouldn’t listen to my own body. So I popped the pill and closed my eyes, desperately trying to get some rest.

This was the very thing that did so much damaged, jeopardized my entire labour, affected the bonding process and made breastfeeding so...

7 Massive Myths About The Menopause

Sep 23, 2016

The menopause can be such a huge deal for most women. It’s such a significant milestone in our lives as it marks the end of one era and the beginning of a whole new one. But sadly for many of us, it can also be a real struggle to get through. And it’s not just the prospect of hot sweats and unwanted hair-growth that cause the problems. It’s the fear of losing your identity as a woman, losing your sex appeal, disappearing into old age, the possibility of becoming ugly and fat, and the fear of the unknown.

The crazy thing is that whilst we love to talk about so many things in our lives, it’s incredibly rare for us to feel at ease talking openly about the menopause. Even our doctors are usually more concerned with dealing with the physical symptoms than discussing anything else. So many of us fall victim to the myths that surround the menopause and all of its supposed changes.

But here’s the thing: there is often very little truth behind these horrible...
